Some refer to Parque Garcia Sanabria as to an outdoor art gallery. Others prefer to see in it a botanical garden. Others again consider it an excellent getaway or a means to get in touch with nature in virtually the center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Yet, the park is all of these at the same time: a green spot, often referred to as the lungs of Santa Cruz, tastefully laid out with alleys shaded by the lush greenery which comes in many shapes, colors, fragrances and species; a spot the coordinates of which are pegged out by sculptural works surprisingly appearing or marking various spots of the park. The park fills an area of more then 65,000 square meters, and its center is marked by the so-called monument of Fecundity, a sculptural masterpiece created by Francisco Borges Salas. The park bears the name of the mayor who approved the construction of the park in the early 20th century.
